I am working in a Summer camp in Minnesota this summer, and when camp finishes (mid August) I am looking to travel to San Jose to stay with some friends. However I am not sure the best mode of transport?
I am considering Greyhound Bus, AMTRAK (?) Trains or Flying.
Ideally I am looking the most cost-effective way to travel WITHOUT comprising safety (a friend of mine was nearly mugged at a Greyhound station in SC).
I would be making the journey Return, about a month later.
If anyone has any experience of travelling long distance across the states I would appreciate it. Particularly airline recommendations and how much I should expect to pay.
Thanks!

The best is renting a car, and driving, though the cost is higher( $800), flying is fast and efficient( $300), amtrak ($250) and greyhound( $150) are economical way and in 3 days
Fly. The cost difference between a plane and a bus or train is less than you would spend of food for the 3-day trip. You'll also have more time to spend in San Jose.
