My friend and I would like to travel to India, back packing for a month in March/April 2008. Leaving from London and arriving in Mumbai, does anybody have any ideas of the cheapest booking agencies/ airlines. The cheapest I have found is £333 return, including taxes (excluding visas), somes reasonable.

I think that's the most reasonable, to be honest. Mine is £275 from Heathrow to Mumbai, but mine is only a one way ticket. You should try www.travelsupermarket.com, which does a mass search throughout all travel agents and will bring up the best rates. Also, you could call into a couple of high street travel agents, tell them that you want no frills, basically flight only, to India - or maybe you could try to fly into another airport (might be cheaper). Since you're going to be backpacking across India, it'll hardly make much difference if you don't fly into Mumbai itself. I think the key is to make sure you aren't paying for too many extras. Totally unrelated, I work within budget hotels, and it's amazing how much cheaper they get, once all the frills are taken out. Anyway, have a fantastic time -- as I am certain you will. India is filled with truly tremendous culture, and the people are fantastic!
Good luck!!
