I drive a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4. It has about 200k total miles but has a new motor (motor was put in back in like 2006 or 2007) so 30k to 40k of that 200k is from the new motor.
A few days ago. I was driving home... going about 70mph. I then noticed I couldn't go any faster! I accelerated to see if I could get to 75mph but when I hit the gas the engine would just rumble/sputter and lose power. When I let go off the gas and went back down in the 60s and 50smph, I still sputtered and continued to slow down. So I pulled over and shut the truck off. Waited a few minutes started the truck back up, and it started fine and ran good. I drove off the freeway and made it home just fine but I was on side streets and never had to go faster than 40mph.
After that incident my truck just seems to run strange. Its hard to explain, it just feels... "light", if that makes sense. Then today, I gunned it up to 3000 rpms on a side street. Just to see if it would cut down. It didnt sputter but after I did that the engine makes a weird gurgling like noise.
What is the issue here!?? Please help. I dont know much about cars/trucks.

Sounds like a fuel problem.First change the fuel filter.If it still runs bad.Have the fuel system pressure tested.When fuel pumps start to go bad(usually around 200K miles) they will either intermittedly cut off and turn back on( the motor will sputter from this) or they will weaken the fuel prereesure,which will result in the engine not acheiving higher rpm.
Replace your air filter and check to see if you have any fouled spark plugs. Also test your spark plug wires if you can. If that doesn't solve it, replace fuel filter. Then go from there to the fuel pump, mass air flow sensor and fuel system treatment/flush.
One of those things should solve it and aren't too terribly expensive.
