I would say the most successfull social movement was the start of the U.S. until around the 1900's. The U.S surpassed all existing countries in only a few hundred years. There is wording in the U.S Constitution that was supposed to limit government powers. We had a few good decades in the 40's and 50's where working made a good living, but little by little the elite vs worker wages gap widened, then governmen introduced federal entightlements or ideological LEFT causes, which the government supplied a service but with tremendous waste and corruption by politicians. Now we can't tell the difference between either side and they refuse to work together, placing there own wealth, careers ahead of the common working class and the good of the country.
