It is a tidewater glacier meaning that it ends in the ocean. It is actually retreating quite quickly, I am not sure if it still ends in the ocean. It is on a volcanic island (Heard Island), that is heavily glaciated. The major volcano on the island is known as "big ben". Vashel Glacier flows westward along the southern end of the island. There is a large outwash plain of sediment to the north of the glacier with lots of coarse sediment.
