If you think beans are the problem, try buying dry beans and soak them overnight before you use them. This helps remove oligosaccharides (indigestible complex sugars) on the surface. Dry beans are cheaper too.
Yes--eating cooked dried beans can lead to intestinal gas if you don't digest the sugars in the beans. Usually, this is a problem only for a short time when people who don't eat beans regularly start eating beans. Once your start eating beans regularly, for most people, you stop having the gas.
For a few people, though, even regular consumption of beans doesn't overcome the gas problem. In that case, you might want to use Beano, an over-the-counter product for this purpose.
I have heard that soaking the beans overnight, then pouring off the soaking water and cooking them in fresh water will help diminish the problem. I've also heard that rinsing canned beans will help. I can't vouch for either method.
Hi *Smile*... For reducing the flatulent effect of beans and lentils rinse tinned beans well. With dry beans soak overnight, before you are ready to cook the beans change the water. When the beans are cooking take off the bubbly whiteish foam that accumulates on the top, also you can add spinach, kale or a seaweed such Kombu, to the recipe, you could also try fennel as that is supposed to help with digestion and flatulence as well...
Have fun cooking your beans!!!!! I really hope I was able to help you with your pain!!!!!
I've been vegan now for a few years but I suddenly developed stomach pains about a month ago. I discovered it was the soy milk I was using. There's an ingredient in some soy milks (carageenan) that I may have became sensitive to over time. I changed to rice milk & no problems now.
How many beans are you eating? Maybe you need to ease up a bit or invest in a digestive enzyme.
Are you drinking lots of water? If not that may solve your ptoblem
