a) too processed and artificial, which I try to avoid
b) I don't like carbonated drinks
c) empty calories.
I haven't had a soda for 14 years, and thats WAY before I went vegan or even vegetarian. Now, veganism is just another reason to avoid them- aspartame tested on animals, etc.
I don't, not because I'm concerned about whether or not they're vegan but because I think they're gross and unhealthy.
There has been some debate about the taurine in such drinks as Red Bull. According to the company, Red Bull is vegan, but I don't know about other energy drinks currently on the market.
I get enough energy from natural sources - ie: healthy FOOD! I also like to make smoothies with a bit of matcha powder. Not only do they taste delicious but it feels good knowing you're consuming natural energy, not a bunch of fake-tasting chemicals.
I'll drink Monster and Rock Stars from time to time (for the taste, not the jolt.) Both are vegan (except for one of the Monster Nitrous drinks), and I figure that I eat healthfully enough that I can drink crap once in a while. I'm pretty sure Red Bull is vegan as well, but I dislike the taste.
Once in a blue moon I have an energy drink. But the real and most effective energy drink of all is pure and fresh coconut water. If you do research you will find out that nothing beats that.
