I am curious if there is anyway to remove ONLY the shortcut icon from the Windows Vista Desktop? I am fairly inept with computers, and the advice I have gotten is to 'right click' on the short cut and choose 'delete'. I don't want to delete the program, I only want to remove the shortcut icon that is placed on my desktop. Some programs I don't use on a regular basis and would rather not have their icon on the desktop all the time, I would rather be able to go through the start menu. Can someone explain to me in laymans terms how to clean up my desktop without deleting any programs? Thanks.
Update:Thank you so much, to both of you. I was terribly afraid I was going to delete the program the wrong way by deleting the shortcut on the desktop. This was very easy once I understood it! THANKS!

They were correct, right-click and hit Delete. That is only deleting the icon (shortcut), not the actual program. You have to uninstall programs, not delete them.
Yep, just highlight the icon on your desktop and press delete or use your method. All the icons on your desktop are just icons and not the program itself usually. To be sure its a shortcut it will have the arrow symbol on the icon itself.
