I've done some research as to why Rabbits are Rabbits and why Golfs are Golfs, and it seems to be that they're basically the same car, just with different names. One European and one American. So would there be any way to change a Mk1 Rabbit into a Golf? Would I just have to replace the badge, or would I have to do more? Please help. Thank you!
Update:Oh, ok, so djaca70, how would I be able to make sure that it was made in Wolfsburg and not in Pennsylvania?

no different!!! same car built in the same factory on a production line next to the Golf!!
Well, this is an interesting question. It depends where the Rabbit was manufactured. You see, there were Rabbits that were manufactured from late 1979 to 1984 in Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. These were "Americanized" based on the preferences from the president of VW of America. If you look at the inside of a Rabbit from 1981 to 1984 it is very obvious how the car was "Americanized." Switches are different, especially the headlight switch, mirror controls, there is more anodized aluminum (chrome), suspension is much softer, etc. However, the Rabbit was its North American name, and in South America it was called the Caribe', the rest of the world called it a Golf, following VW's tradition of naming cars after some sort of wind. Examples- Golf (Gulf Stream), Vento (Jetta), Scirocco (Desert wind in Africa), Passat (I am uncertain what this was named after). In a pinch, you can replace the Rabbit badge with a Golf one, and to make it an authentic Golf, make sure it was from Wolfsburg, as opposed to Pennsylvania.
paying for extra contemporary is often a bad theory. Older autos are lots extra convenient and extra basic to maintain. however the rust ought to be an argument. A hollow interior the floor isn't the top of the worldwide, as you could only tar a patch over that. yet once you reside the place they use salt on the roads interior the wintry climate, it ought to be lots worse. I had an previous VW Dasher the place the tie rod connections to the struts rusted off, making the vehicle uncontrollable. evaluate the rust heavily, till now initiating to repair it. and don't replace the seats, only conceal them. the pinnacle liner I fastened via utilising a sturdy rubber cement, or you could fasten plastic strip throughout on the interior. The electronics don't be counted. putting high priced electronics in a vehicle this is out interior the solar, freezes interior the wintry climate, could be stolen, etc., is a waste. yet once you or you dad at the instant are not likely to do it your self, then you relatively ought to enable a mechanic evaluate it for you first. the biggest project could be water interior the gas or brake fluid.
