Che Guevara was a man of conviction and principle. Did he do bad things, yes. Did he do good things, yes.
Very few people are all one thing or another and to try and lump him in a certain basket is to not give him credit for the influence he had in Central America. Whether you believe that to be good or bad, he was a huge part of the political scene and I personally don't believe Castro could have taken Cuba without him.
As they have said before me he did good and bad things. He started out as an innocent, graduate who wanted to put his medical knowledge to practical use all across south america by helping people free of charge. The he let his ego take over and I guess he thought he knew how to change the world.
I'm a socialist my self, and do admire the Che in some ways but look down on some other things he did. I also refuse to wear Che shirts because too many people wear them because they think it's cool.
So in all, he was just human. He thought he had the opportunity to change the world, which just lead him in to killing people, thinking it was the only way.
Che was a man who cared about the welfare of people, which is why he became a doctor. But his obsessions led him to be convinced that he knew all of the answers, and that whatever force, whatever violence, whatever means he used to bring about the realization of his dreams was therefore justified.
It's an old story, really. You start out wanting to do good, become lost in a morass of your own self righteousness, and end up doing more harm than good, because you end up destroying everything and everyone that gets in your way.
This is the failure of the French Revolution, the Russian Revolution, the Chinese Revolution; and yes, this was also the failure of Che as well.
