If your fat and you gain muscle instead of actually losing weight, that would still make you thinner right? Because more muscle = more metabolism. More metabolism = more weight loss.
Is this right? If not then please explain, if so then why are people telling me that's wrong?

Absolutely correct, EXCEPT that you are confusing fat reduction with weight loss.
Bodyfat, and untrained muscle, are less dense than long, strong, capable muscle.
So by training to improve your strength and agility, you will probably gain weight AND get a more compact, streamlined and athletic physique at the same time.
So, more muscle = more metabolism (and the 'off-duty' fuel that muscles use when they are NOT working hard is FAT). More metabolism = more fat loss.
More fat loss = more weight loss IF you aren't gaining muscle at the same time.
Muscle can be built very fast, but stored fat can only be released (and converted into a burnable form) slowly. So effective training will tend to increase your weight at first, and improve your bodyfat percentage later when you have built enough muscle to 'metabolise' a significant amount of extra fuel.
