I'm very interested in becoming an embalmer and to do so I must complete two years as an apprentice , does anyone know of funeral homes that do this ? Preferably around the bay area in California ?
Please be aware that you must go to college to be a mortician. You will require a bachelor's degree in mortuary sciences and funeral services. Most medical colleges offer mortuary programs. Most funeral homes will not accept your for an internship unless you are in your junior or senior year of college for M.S.F.S. If you are simply curious as to whether this would be a good career for you, you can do what I did and call up the local funeral homes and ask to speak with the funeral director about the profession.
I live in Michigan and I am just starting my freshman year of college in a Pre-Mortuary science program. I am also employed at a local funeral home. So to answer your question, just go to a funeral home and explain to them what you want to do, and if you are going to college they may give you a job and let you learn all the stuff!
