My baby boy is nearly 8 months old. He can get onto his hands and knees then he rocks back and forth but doesn't actually go anywhere.
Then he straightens his knees and balances onto his feet, so he's got his hands and his feet on the floor with his bum in the air. If you can picture the scene haha.
From this position he usually overbalances after a few seconds though.
So when do you think he'll crawl??

Ebony did that for about 3 weeks before she crawled but my nephew only did it for a few days. I'm pretty sure a little girl at playgroup did it for about 3 weeks also, and another one for 4 weeks so maybe that will give you a rough idea :-)
That sounds funny but I'm sure we've all seen this just before our babies starting proper crawling movement.
Babies do need to find some way to move across the floor. Each will do so at unpredictable times and in distinctive ways.
Your child may be a scooter, one who likes to stay upright and scoot across the floor on his bottom. Many babies prefer creeping, commando crawling or wriggling forward on the stomach. Many children will crab-crawl, scooting backwards. Some babies roll everywhere and then go straight to pulling up and walking.
Some go straight to walking, some bum shuffle, some push themselves backwards on their tummy (consider getting a tummy time mat!!) around the living room, some crawl backwards. And, of course, many children will get up on all fours and crawl forward in the traditional way.
Your son is very close to crawling. Just enjoy the moment and takes lots of video to laugh at one day.
Enjoy

You probably know all babies are different. They advance at their own rate. My son started crawling at 5 months, but my friend's baby who is 2 weeks younger than my son, didn't start till she was 10 months. That's not uncommon.
If I had to give an estimate I would say he might be crawling within a month. But there are some babies who try and try and eventually give up and go straight to walking.
What I did to help my son along was to physically walk his legs. Meaning, while he was on his hands and knees I moved one knee forward (as if crawling) and then the other. Then I moved his hands forward and repeat. I basically did the crawling for him. I just let him regain his own balance. I did that for about 2 weeks and not only did he get the much needed strength to crawl he was also trying it!
Sounds like hes getting close. Olivia started doing that around 5 or 6 months...then she actually crawled backwards before she went forwards...every baby is different..enjoy the peace now! When they start moving theres no going back!
He's trying to walk - a lot of babies don't bother with the crawling bit
well it seems like very soon, he'll do it when he is ready. my daughter is 13 months old and up until recently was dragging her legs along instead of crawling, but now she has started crawling properly. don't worry, time is of the essence.x
My daughter never crawled, and nor did I. She's hit all her milsetones and there are no problems, some babies just don't!
My daughter never crawled - sat up when she was suppposed to..she got up and leaned against things...started walking when she was exactly a year old but never never crawled.
hehe! he might not crawl he may move around another way! babies are so funny! my first didnt crawl till he was 9 months
your baby will crawl in his own time, but as for now, enjoy him stationary for awhile longer and don't forget to pat his little bottom while it's hanging about up there. lol.
