The BBC has officially confirmed that Doctor Who has been re-commissioned for a new series, the eighth since the series returned in 2005 and the Thirty Fourth since the series began in 1963.

The official website has revealed that the show’s lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, is already working on the new series and plotting a new run of adventures for the Doctor. The series is expected to start filming at the end of 2013 or beginning of 2014 which suggests a transmission date of Autumn 2014."

It doesn't start until August 2014 here in Britain but I don't know about the US. Before then though, we have the 50th anniversary special set for broadcast on 23 November this year and the Christmas Special for broadcast on Christmas Day this year. Again, these are the British airdates but I hope I helped in some way...

The 50th anniversary special is going to be the 23rd of November 2013 and then there will be a Christmas special but I don't think they have announced when season 8 will be.

The Brits calls them series, not seasons. There will be a special around Thanksgiving and one at Christmas, but Series 8 doesn't even start filming until January.
