It was written sometime in the 1400's (Aka- 14'th Century).
It is the first part of (an Italian) Dante Alighieri's 14'th century epic poem titled "Divine Comedy". It is followed by Purgatorio and Paradiso.
Edit- Sorry, further research into the subject shows that it was actually written sometime during the 12'th century however there are no remaining originals to precisely confirm the time of it's making and the full book "Divine Comedy" was not published until the 14'th century using copy's of the original writings.
Also do not be mislead by the title "Divine Comedy" during that time the were two distinct styles of writing one was called Tragedy and the other was called comedy, all books and writing at the time fell under one of those two categories depending on the language they were written in. Therefor Dante simply called his work "Comedy" after the style that he wrote it in.
Just an update on the above comment: 14th century is NOT the 1400's. the 1300's was the 14th century, just like we are currently living in the 21st century, no the 2100's.
Dante's Divine Comedy was written between 1308 and his death in 1321. This would have been the 14th century.
