They like big engines and already have turbo diesels over 6liters making around 350hp they could make a turbo diesel corvette.
The corvette being so light it would be a nice unique sports car.
Good gas mileage in such high geared lightweight vehicle too.
What do you guys think?
Update:They wanted to make one for the audi R8.
Update 3:umm diesel contains more energy then gasoline thats why it has compression ratios over 16.5 and has to be durible enough to withstand the huge bangs making it rev lower
Update 5:http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/forums/news-an...

You can't argue this point. A gas V8 makes a beautiful sound with the right exhaust. You can not get that sound with a diesel. Won't happen.
It already is a nice unique sports car. It already gets good gas mileage 28+ on the hwy. Diesel is more expensive the premium here right now and diesel engines take more maintenance. I think a diesel corvette is a stupid idea.
Never in a million years would that happen, even if diesel was the last fossil fuel source in the world. That is the worst idea I have ever heard. Octane for diesels is crap, which is why the corvette has a high-octane (premium only) NATURAL GAS compustible engine that is smaller than a diesel and has a higher output (hp) than a "larger than 6 liter diesel engine". Maybe not in the torque area, but if it's a light vehicle that won't matter as much. Besides, one of your perks for the corvette is that it is light, if it had a diesel engine it wouldn't be light anymore.
It's for going fast and having fun, not towing your mobile home...
The weight of a diesel engine would almost match the weight of the rest of the corvette
What the hell is with everyone lately. All I ever see is stupid ******* questions lately. The whole point to building a sports car is so it can rev really ******* high and make its total power potential. A diesel could never be built to rev as high as a gasoline engine therefore they will never be able to make the same top end power. Sure they make it up in the bottom end power, but that's for towing or hauling your family around.
GM doesn't have any money. Corvette sales do not make up much of their income. i think any plans for turbo diesel corvette will be put on hold since GM says they don't even have enough cash to make it through the month.
I think a diesel in a corvette just doesn't work.
If gas mileage is an issue, you shouldn't be buying a Corvette anyways.
I think that diesels cannot go fast and go slow because of the way they are. A diesel doesn't rev fast enough to make a sports car.
Well... I would stick with gas because the new high output Corvette which runs on gas, with an LS9, 6.2 litre, V8 engine (Super charged) is putting out 632 horsepower and that seems good enough for me.
it`ll never happen, the corvette is a Sports car!! Built for speed not torque/hauling.
Im sure someone has dropped a turbo diesel in a vette. if you google it, im sure you'll find one
