I write a quit a bit....I never show them to anybody though. I can't just sit down and write good stuff when I want to though. There has to be a special moment or mood that I'm in. I think that make the best poetry. Will you share some of yours with me?
I have written poetry for 15 years. I was scared to share them, too. Here are three tips if you are serious about it, though:
1. READ poetry. The more you read, the better YOUR poetry will get.
2. Revise, revise, revise. Never call a poem done. It may be, but revisit it from time to time, and often you can improve on it.
3. Practice and practice. The more you write, the better you'll get. Sounds obvious, but it is the truth.
After you've done these things, you'll become more confident. When you are more confident, you can start to share. When you start to share, you will find that you become even BETTER at it. I also recommend finding a club if and when you are in college. That is an excellent way to grow as a poet.
I write poems, but I haven't done it in a while which makes me sad. I've been doing it for about 3-4 years and have around 100 poems. and don't be afraid to share... criticism can be a good thing to help you improve and get compliments from it although some people might be negative... you gotta take the good and the bad.
I've written lots of poetry - a lot of what I wrote years ago was almost like I had been writing about my own future so I got scared and haven't done much writing since....
Yea, you and me both. They get kind of personal too. So I only share with really close people. Or somewhere I can post them, where I don't know anybody, lol. And then people can comment, and suggest and what not. Good luck, and happy writing!

Oh, go ahead, share one. I just joined a group that does spontaneous wriiting. Sometimes you just need to say what you've written out loud. It makes you a better writer and critical thinker.

If they're personal I wouldn't share them...of course.
But if you think that people can relate to them go ahead and share your poems!
