Why Do A Lot Of Africans Act So Cruel?

I'm African (Ghanaian). But i do not understand how Africans can be so prejudice to other groups of people, even to their own people. Blacks went through times of being enslaved by the "white man". Our forefathers had to endure horrible suffering. Yet the africans today do the same to others and themselves. Gays are tortured, set on fire, imprisoned, executed for being gay. Women, who lose their virginity to soon, to someone of another race, rival family or religion are also severely punished. You'd think that after slavery we would be more understand towards people who are different to us. I grew up in Africa and at a young age I saw a girl beaten to death by the people of her community because she admitted to falling in love with a girl in her school. They said she was evil and should be destroyed. Children were throwing stones at her, adults cut her, hit her, someone even pushed a stick in to her eye so that she would be disoriented by the pain. During these actions they claimed to be doing the work of God. When she died they prayed and just moved on with their lives. When I ask other an African person (most of them very religious) about what he / she thinks about gays etc. They say that they are wrong, evil and should be put to death. And that my mind has been corrupted by "white people", But what kind of religion allows this? How can you call yourself a religious person and still harm / destroy God's creation? Even if you think someone has done something wrong, who gives you the right to pass judgement on them?

I'm proud of being Ghanaian, don't get me wrong, but when I see ignorant acts of hate, evil actions done all in the name of God. I ask myself why am I able to see that what they're doing is wrong and they can't?
