He was more Conservative than a lot of Republicans today. Democrats have been sliding downhill towards Socialism since the the big switch around 1900. To some extent Republicans have too. So a Republican today is a little more Liberal than even Kennedy.
In his 1961 inaugural speech, he basically said to America, "god help the poor sunofabitch who attacks the US."
In the same speech, he also said, "ask not what your country can do for you, but what YOU can do for your country," a statement that would make all modern liberals spew hate and vindiction at him.

Because JFK was a lot more conservative when it came to foreign policy, and despite that, liberals still claim him as their own.

JFK is one of the most well liked presidents in the history of the United States on both sides of the aisle.

JFK was an anti-communist. He disapproved of Castro and the Soviet Union. He's a conservative by today's standards.
He was more conservative than the Republicans were, he lowered Taxes and did not want to send a million troops to Vietnam!
