i've struggled with this question too actually but rather as a woman. I've seen really good guys get tossed around like salad by WOMEN!
Now this question is in the LGBT section according to my point of view. Now i'm a lesbian and I once dated the sweetest girl in the world. Perfect in every way but for some reason i lost interest and I tried for a full year to force myself back in love with her. No matter how hard, i was unable to feel for her the way i thought i did in the beginning.
So like i said, i've wrestled with the WHYS, believe it or not I found my answer. No human is perfect and there will be flaws. Love is more than doing everything right. Whether we admit it or not, the majority of us care about appearance:
Now think of this, we call people wrong for looking at the outside, now, for those people who think it is absurd to look at appearance i ask the following: 1. Would you date someone with terrible hygiene if you were a neat freak? 2. have you ever seen food that might possibly taste good and judge it from how it LOOKS? 3. don't we all have a TYPE and wouldn't preferring a certain gender be a TYPE as well as a PHYSICAL APPEARANCE attribute?
The answer would be yes no matter how you try to deny it. In the end, we need both our eyes and mind to be satisfied by a person.
to get back on track, My gf was beautiful with long hair in the beginning and note that my type if FEMME, i'd never date a chick that looked like a guy. She started cutting her hair and though i'll admit she still was cute, i was turned off by her new look.
In addition, I attract men easily and my best friend, HE is handsome, muscular and an eye candy when he dresses up, plus he is REALLLY NICE and women use him like he is disposable. he's the kind of guy who give money to anyone who says + looks like they are in need when he can't even afford it. He will walk for miles to meet me and never say NO. It has been years and his love for me had never changed.
Now, i'm a lesbian. Despite him having these wonderful attributes--his appearance of being a MAN is the ultimate turnoff.
Now, there are mental parts to this--My ex gf, can't hold an intelligent conversation with me. She is so afraid to oppose me that she is a push over. My best-friend, he is really SLOW and a push over as well so women will walk all over him, in addition, his money managing skills are HORRIBLE!
What attracts us to a person is both Skin deep and more. a Person is not just their mental self but their physical self as well. For us who are cursed with sight, we have no choice but to want to be able to say "she/he is so beautiful" when we start to describe that person. Two hot identical twins could satisfy our eyes, but if one is a downright ***** and the other is sweet, we will take the sweet one because not only does she appeal to our eyes, but to our mental needs. and if a third look-alike comes along and she has more good things to offer--well you tell me.
So when you wonder why you can't love the really nice person--ask two things: 1. What does she lack mentally and physically?
Love, my friend, is unique and that is why there can only be one person that no other can beat.
This question could be asked the other way around why do girls get tired of good guys and then hurt them bad I am sayin this because I am going throught it
