I feel like I can't get going when I wake up (whether it's 5 am or noon) unless I have a rockstar or an amp. The problem is that it keeps me up ALL night, literally, no matter what time I drink it. It makes me really moody at the end of the day as I try to sleep but can't, even though I'm tired.
I can't get myself moving and awake unless I drink one and I was addicted for a while, but I literally feel like I'm drunk on energy drinks. It's worse than alcohol. I need it to be awake, but it makes me so moody at night and it makes me restless.
Why is this? Are there better alternatives? I've never been a morning person so this USED to be a miracle worker for me but now it's actually effecting relationships.
Update:I know about crashes, which I wouldn't even mind if I COULD crash. I just "crash" but can't sleep. I can't stop moving and thinking at the end of the day. I don't have this problem when I don't drink them, but it's like I have to choose not being able to sleep at night, or not being able to move through out the day. I never could get moving before and after I started drinking them it was great. Now I can't figure out an alternative to energy drinks that will keep me moving throughout the day but allow me to sleep at night without hours of restlessness beforehand.

it has caffeine, guarana, ginsing, milk thistle, taurine, and sugar
and it usually comes in a 16 ox container
Which means the amounts and mix are GOING TO KEEP YOU AWAKE.
from wikipedia
"Rockstar can cause jitteriness, anxiety, and high blood sugar levels. If mixed with alcohol it can lead to heart failure and may also mask the level of alcohol intoxication. Because of the diuretic effect of caffeine, Rockstar can exacerbate dehydration."
How about - if you take about 2 sips to wake you up in the morning. that might be enough to wake you up without keeping you awake all night.
other than that, you are describing a true addiction- and caffeine alone is addictive.
the fact that it is effecting your relationships is another reason to believe it is a true addiction.
if you drink that at al, you are going to need a lot of water over the day to compensate.
i was in the same situation as you i was addicted to the relentless energy drink, (and i mean addicted as in physically) i would need one first thing in the morning and seriously could not get up and do anything untill i had my energy drink fix! i would drink it and become AWAKE, i was drinking 3-4 per day for about 18 months which is yu work it out is very expensive as there sold for like £1.30 each!
anyway i was feeling more and more ill as if my insides were rotting or something it was horrible! i was soooo tired by the end of the day from the crash it gave me and i couldnt sleep at night! so i decided to try swap it with something slightly healthier lol
ive been drinking lucozade ever since and it gives me the boost i crave but it doesnt contain the caffine crap and sugar, yeah lucozade contains sugar sure but nowhere near as much as the energy drinks! i feel a lot better with the lucozade and deffo would say try it instead of the energy drinks because they will kill you in the end
they are designed to give you a boost with a crash at the end
bc its a huge shot of caffiene
you body is too used to it, it relies on it now
try getting off of it
you react to it, stop taking
caffiene
