It's always been like that, the west has more wins and the east just sucks. Why is that? It can't be the players because of all the trades going on, players move from east to west all the time. So why does the worst team in West has better record than most teams in east?

The nature of the NBA is cyclical. During the time of Michael
Jordan, the East is stronger than the West. Most of the
bad teams were in the West thus they were the ones who
goes to the lottery. San Antonio even sucked when David
Robinson got injured in 1996-97 and did not made the playoff
but they were very fortunate that they got the number one pick
in 1997 and got Tim Duncan.
Most of the teams that qualifies for the playoffs have a low
chance of getting a high pick on the lottery draft. That is why
when those great players in the East in the 1990's like Jordan,
Pippen, Ewing, Miller and others become old and gone, their
teams don't have the youth to replace their talent.
That is why the NBA is cyclical. During the time of Jordan, the
West teams sucks but were stockpiling on youth through high
draft lottery picks. The youths are the future. When they mature,
they will replace the aging superstars. That is why we now have
Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnet, Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzky, etc... on
the West. But when these guys becomes old, watch for the East
to rise again with Lebron James, Dwane Wade, Chris Bosh,
Gilbert Arenas, Dwight Howard.
The Duncans and Garnets are the present, the Lebrons and
Wades are the future. It is indeed cyclical.
Yes, the East does suck, but this is an improvement over the last few years. For a while, Detroit was the only team that was relevant. Then it was Detroit, Miami, and everyone else. This season, you have Detroit with the East to lose. Washington has been great this year, but I dont see Agent Zero getting them over the hump just yet. Cleveland is too inconsistent. Any team from the Atlantic Division isn't a serious contender. There are some Atlantic Coast Conference teams that could beat some of them. I'd take UNC over the Knicks, Sixers, or Celtics anyday. At least this year, the middle of the pack teams are somewhat more competitive. The East is going to suck for a long time though unless something huge is done to swing the balance of power to the East's favor.
Maybe the competition is stiffer in the Eastern Conference, whereas in the West there's about 6 good teams and the rest suck.
After all, two of the last three NBA champions are from the Eastern Conference
It's just this season that it is so extreme. It's becoming a popular trend in sports. The NBA Eastern Conference is like the NFC in the NFL, or the NL in the MLB.
Yes they do but why do I see them win more All-Star games then the West?
its just that the western conference is so good... do some good thinking and you'll get it
