Maybe because a lot of American's don't agree with his political beliefs. He's a rather extreme libertarian and most Americans don't even consider themselves libertarians.
I can respect his Libertairan stuff...it's the conservative side I have a problem with. And although Dr. Paul has been cleared of being a racist, he has a lot of racist supporters. There's no way I'm going to vote for the same platform that attracts those ignorant haters.
I read an article penned by Dr. Paul himself about the secular 'Attack on Christmas' (link below.) It's embarrassingly ridiculous.
And while I'm no financial genius, I think a switch back to a gold standard monetary policy will have negative consequences.
He just come off as awkward, he doesn't have the kind of appearance or appeal to a broad audience. It may not be what you want to hear but it is the truth of why he was not a big player in this election. You have to appeal to a broad base to get a stance in the election and he did attract a crowd but not quite large enough.

U can pretend Obama is Ron Paul.
The Repubs tore him down like a pack of jealous little girls-Ron Paul is a noble and truthful man.
A vast majority of Americans don't know as much about Ron Paul as you do.

Because they are ignorant sheep who will continue to vote against their best interests until they no longer have the right to vote.
I will now translate for the vast majority of Americans:
BAAHHHHH BAH BBBAAAAHHHHHHH BAHH BBAAHHH BAAHHH!
I like some of his libertarian views, but he's too extreme. Almost to the point of complete anarchy.
They either don't understand or are too afraid to confront the truth.
"Extremist" what? Franklin and Jefferson were "extremists" in much the same way.
Simple They can see better than you. You must be overlooking something.
