He's only unpopular on the vocal American Republican Right who believe he's Satan personified. I think he's turned out to be just an average American president doing what he's told. He hasn't done much that's particularly special.
Lol @ the accusations he's a "Marxist".
All American mainstream politics are Right Wing and fundamentally capitalist.
President Obama is clearly the best president in my lifetime. And I'm 63. And he is doing it while paired with the worst Congress in my lifetime. He ended two wars. That should be enough alone to make one of the top Presidents. But he also ended the Great Recession. He could have turned it around faster but Congress refuses to fund roads and highway infrastructure stimulus beyond the one passed in Obama's first year. The stock market and economy are only going up, way up, not down. He imposed new rules on banks and Wall Street to get back to some of the lessons learned but forgotten from the Great Depression by Clinton and Bush. He finally passed something to get healthcare sanity -- something Presidents have tried to do since Teddy Roosevelt. ACA is like Democracy -- its the worst system out there, except for all the rest proposed. That is why the opponents have no viable alternative system whatsoever. No more losing your life savings because a family member got sick. No more working until 75 because a dependent with a preexisting condition depends on your company healthcare. And it is working great in the states that embrace it and not so great in the states that sabotage it. Much better than Coburn's Republican alternative idea to tax your work healthcare benefits. (One downside to ACA -- no more fun trivia nights to raise funds for families like the one we know whose child got cancer and wiped out their life savings.) And the President even agreed to the Grand Bargain to start solving Social Security and the future deficits. But the Republicans killed it because they didn't get 100% of what they wanted -- no new taxes on the filthy rich. So you don't give something, you don't get something and the Grand Bargain failure is on you, Tea Party.
Republicans don't like him because he's in "the other tribe". As far as his politics goes, I don't like him because he is an authoritarian state worshiper, among other things. His personality (the part that isn't manufactured for the cameras) also makes him pretty hard to like. Not only is he a narcissist, but he's also kind of a girly man. Speaking of girly men, there's this toxic virus going around called liberalism, and it results in wanting to bog everybody down with padding and political correctness, almost to the point where you can't even move. These charmin wipes want to make life mediocre for everybody.
Honestly though, you're best bet is to forget about these ticks and leeches. The elections, the congress, the media, the entire system, is about as real as the reality shows you see on tv. You might figure out what that means one day, or you might not. Just live your life, and let others live theirs.
Any politician who won't vow to end its abuse privacy by the NSA cannot really have my support. Screw the ACA, Benghazi, continued unemployment, or anything else. The NSA takes the throne and Obama falls neatly into that group that cares little for its potential to crush free society. He has promised change, fairness, and openness and he has failed to deliver. Blame Republicans, blame his own party, or blame him, but this feels like nothing has changed for the past decade and the country has merely continued on its merry way since Bush was elected.
To me, he has become an icon of why the American party system is broken and he embodies von Goethe saying none are more enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.
I'm British too. However my youngest daughter is now a US citizen. She is a statistician by trade and correctly showed that Obama would win the last election. She now finds that the polls show the democrats are still the most 'popular' party but the margins are too close to predict with any accuracy.
He would know 100% whether or not he could shut down Guantanamo - BEFORE HE WAS ELECTED - therefore his promise to shut it down can only be a lie or sheer dishonesty. As far as I am concerned when a politician lies outright to get elected he is finished and would never get my vote.
I am from UK and we had the biggest liar in UK history - after Blair - his name is NICK CLEGG .... he lied like a feral thug.... no integrity, no credibility.
Dont say ... yes but all politicians lie ... this I know. I accept the rhetoric when they say ... "I will reduce crime" etc they all say that. Its like saying ... "I want nice sunny weather" ?? who doesn't.???
But when you stand there, as Obama did, making a specific promise but know you cant keep that promise he has breached the trust with the people.
He has been involved in high level politics for year so he knew before his election what he could do about Guantanamo. WE should always boot out liars in politics.

Because he's a corrupt, narcissistic Marxist intent on destroying the greatest nation in human history.
Koch Bros propaganda.
He is a lot more popular than the Republicans in congress.
