I have had it pierced for 3 years now and it healed perfectly fine. Recently I changed the earring in it and not it is super infected! It is very swollen and painful. If I take the earring out so my infection can clear up will the hole close?

Never take the jewellery out if infected - it will just close the infection in the skin!
Signs of infection: red, swelling, throbbing, pain, possible blood, discharge that isn't white/yellow.
Nurse it with salt water, if not, seek medical attention.
Unless there is darker yellow/green pus coming out of the piercing, it's not infected. What kind of jewelry was it? Sounds like the jewelry is either not fitting right causing it to swell and hurt or whatever kind of jewelry it is just doesn't agree with your body.
I'd put in the original jewelry, take some ibuprofen, keep it clean by doing sea salt soaks twice a day for 5-10 minutes each soak and go see a professional piercer if it doesn't clear up in about a week or two.
As long as it's not infected, you can take it out. But only if you want it to close should you take it out...cause it definitely can. Taking it out won't clear it up.
