First and foremost: here's what I'm working with
Acer Aspire One model AO722 Laptop
AMD C-60 Dual-Core Processor at 1.333GHz
Radeon HD Graphics
2GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Windows Media Player Classic with Combined Community Codec Pack (CCCP)
My problem is the title of the question. MPC lags on most videos with subtitles, but it's weird. The WHOLE video lags, not just the subs. Here's an example: say I'm watching anime with subtitles, the video is all fine and dandy until multiple subtitles pop up. What I mean is more than the typical subtitles on the bottom. Anime openings and endings with English subs on the bottom and Japanese on top ALWAYS cause massive lag and I usually have to skip them all together. It also happens in the middle of a show when it puts subtitles at the top to translate a sign, letter, or something of that sort
I've tried all different variations of video quality and format, subtitle style, and type, but it's all the same. I can watch 1080p videos with no problem whatsoever, but God forbid I try to watch a 480p video with subtitles.
I've already googled around and tried some of the "quick fixes" like lowering the subtitle resolution and disabling animation when buffering, but that hasn't worked. I disable and close all non-essential processes when I'm using MPC, which doesn't help either. Also, I have my computer in Performance Mode, and I've given MPC the highest priority and still no luck.
This is more of an annoyance than a major problem, and if there is no program I can get or setting I can change that will fix this, then so be it. I'm willing to try about anything that doesn't involve me having to spend money and any help is greatly appreciated. I'll definitely give the best answer to whoever solves this problem, be it hooking me up with a special codec, telling what setting to change and how, or telling me that my computer is the problem and I'm screwed.
P.S. - If you tell me that last one, then please provide an at least semi-detailed explanation. Is it my graphics card, processor, etc.? (i.e. don't say "Your laptop just isn't powerful enough")

If I were you I would not use Windows Media Player Classic and instead use VLC media player. VLC media player contains nearly every codec imaginable and will play essentially any video file that can be played. If you switch to VLC and you are still experiencing a lag in quality then you would have to look at your source (the file that your are viewing) and then your computer (your should upgrade your RAM to four gigs). I watch anime subbed from Japan before it is released in the states, foreign films, dvd's and everything else on VLC, it's solid.
The lag could also be due to other processes that are running on your system during the same time your trying to view your video. How many necessary processes are running at startup that you don't use and could turn off from the services menu? Hope this helps, your laptop should have no from problems while watching video of this kind, even without your RAM maxed out (although it would be better if it was).
