If other people have accounts on the computer, the default action for WMP is to scan for new files and add them to the library. This can be turned off, or only specific locations specified in preferences.
There is a possibility, (if you are the only user, or you have found a LOT of new music) machine has been hacked and is serving files in an IRC channel.
For this to have taken place, you would have to be running without a firewall.....
After installation, pay close attention to the warnings. If ZoneAlarm tells you certain programs are trying to act as a server (particularly a program named Iroffer) your machine has been compromised.
Further Investigation is needed at this point, If you know what you are doing the compromise can be neutralized, but does require in depth analysis and auditing of several critical systems files . If you are not well versed in computer security, my advice would be to back up any personal files and simply reinstall windows.
Make sure to get all current updates, and install AV, and anti-spyware, as well as a firewall.
