Is it worth purchasing an HDMI cable for a HD LCD television? The stock HD component cables seem to work fine but I'm wondering if there is a big difference?
The better the television the more noticeable the difference.
My ex had a tv that while it had an HDMI port it was a very low quality picture for an HDTV and you couldn't really tell the difference between HDMI and component. However if you had a Sony Bravia or other good quality television the difference would be very noticeable.
Also, make sure you don't over spend on an HDMI cable. Many of the ones in the stores are highly overpriced. If you do a search online you can find them for a lot cheaper. They're all the same so don't splurge on an expensive Monster cable
I bought from these guys and it's worked great for me so far:
HDMI is supposed to be much faster than the component hookups. However, to me, I can't tell the difference, but then other people swear there's a huge difference. Technically HDMI is supposed to be far superior, but I can't tell the difference.
yes, theres a HUGE difference. check first if your lcd hd tv has an hdmi slot, and if it does definately go for it. i have one, and it's totally worth it.

If your HDTV is a Visio, Westinghouse, etc... The difference will not be much.
On better brand HDTV's (Sony, Samsung, LG) etc… with better contrast ratios and better processing, and HDMI cable will make a small difference.
The real benefit from component to HDMI is 3 point
1) HDMI is one cable, easy, simple.
2) Not a lot (not many at all) HDTV's display 1080p through component cables
3) There might be a subtle difference for videophiles (people obsessed with display quality)
And that’s it.

the HD Component cables only run at 720p so the HDMI cable would make the picture look much better. The HDMI cable runs at 1080p.
