Americans don't look down on Asians but some Americans like to look down on others in general. Perhaps in other countries they have healthier student/teacher relationships. US teachers can be very harsh in a personal way. They tend to judge work on their opinions of the person rather than the work. They don't neccesarily want the student to succeed. They are this way to the American students as well as foriegners though the accusations will be different. Of course they're not all bad. Americans are however neurotically competetive and this makes us very unhelpful especially at the college level. Of course you can tell I don't buy into this attitude but I don't see how any honest American can deny that is how we generally are.

Personally I have a great respect for Asians, especially Thai people and I am shamefully aware that American tourist make a big a$$ of themselves every day there, most unfortunate. If you aren't going to respect the people, stay the heck out of the country I say.

So you are becoming like the kids that attacked your friend. Why do Americans think like that? Like what? You don't know anything about me & how I think, and I am a USA person. A couple of punks in school act like dorks toward your friend, and now you are judging all Americans. You have become like what you are fussing about! Besides, all us Americans know Asians are smart.

I think a better question is why are you stereotyping all American by your rather subjective experience in one classroom. All people including yourself and me for that matter can behave in an ignorant fashion. Its not an American thing - its a human thing.

Most Americans are fat heads. They think that they are better than everybody else.

Try not to let it bother you or your friend. Many Americans look down on Australians too.

I don't know anyone who looks down on asians. As a matter of fact, it's stereotypical that they're generally considered smarter and hard-working. If anyone says anything bad, I would contribute it to jealousy or bigotry.
