You bought the wrong flasher.
I own a 2000 Malibu, a very similar GM car. On your car you have a 4 way flasher button located on the instrument panel. The flasher is actually integrated in this button. Unfortunately you won't find a replacement flasher at your favorite automotive parts store. You get to go to your local GM dealer's parts department and get that "Great GM Feeling". A replacement flasher for your car is going to cost you about $100.
You may be able to save a few bucks by buying a replacement 4 way flasher button at your local auto salvage yard.
Usually in with your fuses, in the fuse box.
