I need ideas for a baby shower. I have never hosted one before, but the ones I've gone to have been pretty dorky. My best friend, the mom-to-be, is really laid back and would hate the boring games one is usually forced to play at these parties. I want it to be fun and mellow, and I am renting out a little coffee house that will provide food and drinks, but other than eating, and opening gifts, what can we do?

I have a Baby Shower Guide on my website that is FREE and FULL of great ideas for a baby shower. A lot of them are really unique and fresh....not the same old, same old. I still inlcuded some of the time-honored classics.
A lot of work went into the guide and I think you'll find it an asset in your planning. There is even a checklist of all the things that may need to be done (on a time frame).
Have fun and Celebrate Baby!
Many times the games have bring strangers together and while sometimes dorky they are something to laugh about.
It sounds like a lot of socializing and talking so maybe mix a trivia game into the mix, easy fun and you can laugh over the answers.

Also, what if you created a View Type panel randomly to talk about Babies and Baby issues - could be fun but could also be a little crazy.

It is a bridal shower game but you could adapt for a baby shower.

You could set up a table with fabric paints and brushes and onsies and allow anyone that wants to to design a onsie for the baby and the mom can chose her favorite.
I agree. I hate games at showers and would rather mingle and watch presents be opened. :)
My sister had a baby shower/party and it was really fun (hosted by my older sister), she had all her family and friends plus her husband and all his friends so they kind of made it so much more fun, their was dancing and lots of food, and everyone just sat around talking and having a good time!!
even though u r having a baby shower at a little coffe house u could play some game's a little bit bc what would a baby shower be with out any games well if you do there is a game were u buy yarn and stick 8 life savers on the yarn and turn it into a necklace and who ever says baby, labor, or the mothers name gets there hole necklace taken away and who ever has the most wins. or you could do the dipper one where there is 6 dippers and you have to buy six candy bars and melt the candy inside the dippers and the ppl at your shower have to guess wat kind it is and write it on the piece of papper and who ever has the most right wins and they are aloud to tast, smell, and feel it...everybody at my cousins shower loved it when i did the game u should try it...it would be funâ¥
Here is an idea which was a hit at my sister's baby shower
for one of the activities, we had all the guests make play-dough babies, it was fun and artsy, everyone had a laugh looking at the creations :D
guessing the circumference of the mommy's belly was fun as well
Talk, enjoy each others company... pretend it was a cocktail party, just mingle. You don't have to do anything baby-showery if you don't want to. I think most adult women would enjoy and prefer this.
