My friends and I are planning on making cake pops. We are on a budget, so we have decided to use white chocolate chips with food colouring to decorate them. How much would white chocolate chips cost? Also, for the lollipop sticks, what's a good alternative which I can easily find at a local grocery store like No Frills? Also, what cake would go best with nutella? Instead of icing we wanted to use nutella, not sure if we should use vanilla cake or chocolate cake. Thank you.

Instead of being all complicated, just buy the Pillsbury Cake Pop Kit at Walmart. It will cost as much as those chocolate chips will cost you. I have made them before and it is delicious! It comes with popsicle sticks, icing, cake mix, and sprinkles. Its about 2.50 at my Walmart. When you get, tell me how it was.
You can also buy the supplies for cake pops at craft stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. They will carry all of the coatings and will have a big selection of sticks to choose from. If you are looking for something inexpensive, try looking in the craft section of any store (Walmart, Target) for popsicle sticks. Make sure the package says food safe, though. Some craft sticks might not be food safe. If you are really in a bind, you can probably use bamboo skewers, which should be available in most supermarkets. Just cut them in half and remember to cut off the sharp points.
The craft stores and some supermarkets carry what is known as coating chocolate and it comes in a variety of colors and some flavors and are fairly inexpensive.
White Chocolate Chips will run you around $2.50 for a 12 oz bag.
Popsicle sticks are a cheap sub for lollipop sticks.
And I would go with a Butter cake or vanilla.
Hope I helped, happy baking!
