Can I collect unemployment during a company shutdown if I'm a contractor?
I'm a contractor (1099) working through a temporary agency at a company. The company keeps having last minute shutdowns -- they are making us take 4 weeks off by the beginning of January. Can I claim unemployment during that time?

Contractors are not covered by unemployment. That's one of the downsides of being a contractor.
