I am a freshman at Colorado state university and I am doing computer engineering. When I get my degree is one of my options to go into the video game industry, like designing or programming? I really like circuit design and stuff but I am also a huge gamer so it would be nice to have both options open.

I have a buddy that graded from Colorado State with EEE (Electrical Engineer Degree)
He preferred programing to engineering. EEE is a little different than computer, its more demanding than computer.
Ok so this what programming friends have told me, about video game design they are sweat shops. Cheap labor and overworked. If you don't mind poor pay and high stress go for it.
Everyone wants to do video games, so programmers in the gaming industry are a dime a dozen!
Now what my buddies have done is taken their engineer degree and worked with the computer industry and supported engineers. Engineers are weird people so learning how to interact with them help. They are shocked when people don't think or understand everything that they do!
That said if you want to treated like a slave work for video games, want to make really good money work for the computer industry as a programmer.
Learn to program everything, dig deep into the software and get a job that requires you to go deep.
My supervisor loves video games but he wants to do the graphic or special effects part of games because he knows that programmers are treated like crap! BTW his degree is in programming.

RE:
Can I go into video game designing/programming with a computer engineering degree?
I am a freshman at Colorado state university and I am doing computer engineering. When I get my degree is one of my options to go into the video game industry, like designing or programming? That will depend on what specific courses you take while in college. You want to take courses that will benefit your career goals as best as possible. From your school's website, I see there are courses mainly in math, programming, and of course the engineering of the computer. To focus on the video game industry, make sure to take some more programming and design courses as electives.
A degree in computer engineering is very lucrative. It enables you to work in many fields in computer science. Check with the engineering department at your school to see if they have a career services office as well.
