I'm going to work my way through the Cantos with a companion text over the next few months, but I'd also like some prose recommendations that involve his social/philosophical/political positions.
Thanks!

I would thoroughly reccomend the biography of Ezra Pound by A. David Moody. It deals with his early life from 1885 - 1920 focusing heavily on his poetry. It does however give a very good analysis of the reasons behind his early workings and the build up to the Cantos.
Its full title is:
Ezra Pound: Poet: The Young Genius 1885-1920
I hope this helps.
Check out "Select Poems" by Ezra Pound. It not only has the Cantos, but has a bunch of his shorter poems like "In the Station of the Metro" and "House of Splendor"
