taking a photograph more than filming. which one is better?
i will put photography at the first filming at 2nd.
a friend of mine said, Canon is good to filming Nikon is good to photography, is it true?
2nd question,
can a canon select the selective mode? if selective mode, which one will be better?
im going to Australia for holiday this August, 18-55mm and 50mm lens is it enough to travel?

Nikon cheaper (Not in the thousands per) lenses are a lot better for the most part, except like 1 canon prime lens. That being said they are both good and it comes down to preference. Also the D5100 is very good at photography and video.
The 50mm is good for portraits, but on a vacation I would say go with the 35mm f/1.8 prime instead. Useful in more situations. Again preference though. Also if you plan to take landscapes or self portraits be sure to get the wireless remote and a tripod.
Your friend is an idiot who doesn't know anything. For ANY DSLR, the quality of photos or videos depend on the skill of the person using the camera...not the equipment.
I have no idea what the "selective mode" is, but DSLRs should be used in manual mode anyway.
