I have a windows media player video file that I am willing to edit, but as soon as I put it into Windows Movie Maker an error message appears. I presume it has to do with the extension since the file is in the .avi format, so I definetely have to convert it to .wmv or .mpeg or anything readable to WMM.

Is there any converter that turns .avi files into .mpg or .wmv?

If so, where can I find the best converter?

Any internet links or helpful, positive tips will be helpful.
