At the top of the window, click Tools, Internet Options...delete history, temp files, and cookies to free up space.
Download Spybot, free full feature spyware & adware destroyer. http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html <then scan your pc
Check your anti-virus program status to make sure it is working properly.
Defrag...click programs, accessories, system tools, defragment.
Restart pc.
You won't lose any files or programs and your pc will run alot faster.
1) Check for spyware. Run both Ad-aware Peronal Edition ( http://www.lavasoftusa.com/ ) and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections.
2) Check that you have a least 10% of your hard drive free. Go to My Computer and right click on the Local Drive (C:). Look at the properties. If it has less that 10% free space, you will need to delete some files, or move them off the hard drive and on to a CD or DVD. Start by running the disk cleanup, which will remove temporary and other unneeded files. Go to Start, then All Programs, Accessories, then System Tools and click the Disk Cleanup icon.
3) Run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.
4) Defrag the hard drive. Go into My Computer and right click on the Local Drive (C:). Select Properties and go into the Tools tab. Click the Defragment Now button to start the defrag program. If you have not defrag recently (or never) it may take several hours for the program to complete.
Download and run AVG FREE virus scanner from http://donwload.com/ if you are not already running a virus scanner.
Hi MAMA,
1st got to avg.com... or ewido.net and download thier scanner.( for 30 days you get full version for free, after you get basic for free and can pay for premium) Install that and sweep & clean your computer out. Make shure to "quarentine" all malicious files then go to quarentine and completely remove them.
Under the tab Analysis, then Autostart. See if there are things , like Quick time player, games , or messengers that start when you start your PC. Take them off the start up menu. You can CHOOSE to click on those programs when you wish to open them. If you have too many things trying to start at the same time... it will make the PC slow.
2nd.. Click that Green Start button in the corner of the taskbar on the desktop. Select , All PRograms/ Accessories/ System tools.
Run the " Disk Clean up" & Disk Defragmenter ( One at a time please) and say yes to whatever files it says you can move to clear up space.
3rd Once you have done those things RE-START your pc.. it should start wayyy faster.
* Reminder De-Fragmenting is something that should AT LEAST be done once a month, more often if you are saving alot of pics, music, or movies.

Well, you need an antivirus program. Just removing other things from your computer won't do you any good. There several good anti-virus programs, such as Norton's, McAfee, etc. You also may have what is called "spyware", and there are free programs you can download to find and eliminate that. Try AdAware, or Spybot.
When did it start to Run really slow, i would advise a Windows Restore. Go back to the date that it was really fast, If you installed Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc.) From when it was fast & to now, im sure you have the disk, then just reinstall it?
Email me back i would like to follow this one through.,
Download (either on your own if you can, or if not, maybe make a cd on someone elses comp) AVG free antivirus and Lavasofts AdAware SE. Install and run those in safe mode. You should be okay.
sounds like your processor is damaged or your computer has something in it's log that offends your host server, you also might need a modem adjustment. contact your host and go over your log with someone and have your carrier analyze your modem settings
