I don't know what to choose.. I've looked at the Nikon D40 and D60 and also Canon XS and XSi ... I want a good camera but I'm pushing my budget already. Basically I want the best camera but without spending soo much money.. but I don't want to try and save money and end up spending a lot of money but not getting a good camera.. Idk if that made sense haha but I need helpp??
Update:Thanks... also now looking at the Olympus E-510... basically I think i'm looking at the Olympus, the Nikon D40 or D60 .

They all are good entry level DSLR's (although I personally lean towards the Canons).
Much more important than the body are the lenses. You really need to save up to buy only the BEST lenses, because you WILL regret buying cheap ones.
Camera bodies get replaced in time, but lenses stay with you.
Don't forget other expenses like filters, tripod, flash, spare battery and memory card, etc etc etc.
Go for Nikon D40. It has better value for money.
Flash sync speed is very good and noise performance is better than the others that you have listed.
You'll also save money with this model which you can use for other accessories.
I definitely have the Canon XTi and am very happy with it. I definitely have heard that Canon has a greater selection of lenses than Nikon. you need to pass to a physically powerful digicam keep and verify out those cameras. carry them on your palms and spot which feels superb to you. The D40 is being discontinued. as long as you're making a huge funding, i might pass with the two the D40x or XTI.
For people looking for their first DSLR camera, D60 is a great choice. It is very easy to use and provides excellent images without requiring a lot of technical knowledge. It take excellent photos. If can afford it then buy it. I would definitely recommend D60 over D40.If you are on a budget then go with D40 which is an excellent camera and should now be even cheaper.

Any one of those cameras will give you great photos when you do your part. I suggest you go to a store and handle each one to see which one would fit your needs better. Other peoples camera preferences won't match yours.
The XSi is a great entry level DSLR, I just bought one myself. Check out this review:
