I think that corporal punishment is sometimes necessary. It does act as a deterrent when used consistently. I note that since corporal punishment has fallen out of use, crime and other social problems have increased. I think that all the horror stories about corporal punishment being emotionally hurtful are greatly exaggerated.

Whip a person 100 times in public and televise it and see if he commits a crime again.

It would probably be cheaper to lock up the person for life and it also takes so long to execute a person but a dead person has no chance of getting out of prison and killing more people
