I do. To give you an example, the story of the character "X-23" from X-Men starts with a woman being forcibly impregnated, forced to give birth and then her daughter is subjected to abuse, neglect and torture from infancy to turn her into a perfect killing machine.

I haven't bought a comic book for more than 20 years because comics that were once old favorites of mine have become so bleak. What HAS happened to the World of comic books?

The problem with modern comics, as compared to the classics of the past, is that they now tailor them to be more like the real world. There never use to be stories about rape, child abuse, etc. years ago. Comics use to be about losing oneself in a fantasy world, about wanting to be like the super hero you were reading about.
They are depressing. They are designed to be marketed rather than to be entertaining.
