im not too sure if i get the idea of this...so lets say texas has 34 electoral votes and the election is b/w candidate A and candidate B. If mccain gets the majority vote in texas does that means he get the 34 electoral votes? and if this is ALL wrong dont get made and please explain in simple terms how it works thanksss :)

Yes, the winning candidate gets all of the electoral votes. So that means the votes of the voters who voted for the loser are worthless; and how a candidate can win the popular [of the people] election and still not get into the white house; and why all votes on the west coast [ including Alaska and Hawaii] do not count. { because one party almost always has >50% at the middle of the country.}
Maybe we should save some time and money, and just go by what the pollsters say. They are right over 90% of the time.
