Last year I took a month of FMTLA medical leave which was entitled to me since I had been at my place of employment long enough. I'm not sure, but when they downsized, I think that I was one of them that got the axe because I was on medical leave. My question is why offer medical leave, if companies are going to fire employees for taking it? The bosses won't admit to you that's why you are being fired, but they will think of some other excuse. I thought it was illegal to fire someone for taking a medical leave.

FMLA leave protects you from being fired for taking the leave, but it doesn't protect from layoffs where you'd have lost your job anyway. You say you're not sure, but you THINK you were axed because of the leave? If even you aren't sure of that, you'd have a real hard time proving it.
