Science Diet is nothing more then a high priced low quality food. It is full of fillers (mainly corn) and by products. It is so full of grains & fillers that it is more suitable for goats then it is for dogs.
Yopu should be feeding a good quality food that doesn't contain corn, wheat, soy, animal fat, animal digest, by products. Look for a good food taht has meat as at least the first 2-3 ingredients. Become an avid label reader.
Vets aren't great sources of info on feeding & foods... I love & respect most vets and enjoy working in the vet field, however nutrition wise most vets are sadly lacking in this area. They only get general nutrition classes which take in everything from cats to rats, dogs to hogs. They tend to recommend foods that they hear the most about and that reps push. They have no idea of ingredients, etc. It is not usually a good idea to take a vets advice on the food to feed.
