Check the clutch to see if it isn't slipping, check for a lot of slop in the shift linkage and look for leaks on the tranny case.
1) Can you hear any grinding or roaring sound from it while driving ?
2) Will it up and down shift, with out you hearing the gears grinding ?
3) Does the Clutch engage smoothly without chatter or slipping ?
4) Do you hear any noise when you engage the clutch, before putting it in gear ?
5) Is the Gear Shift mechanism loose or have lots of travel in the Leaver ?
6) Do the gear detents of the Shifter feel clear and accessible ?
7) Is there any Lubrication leaking from the Tailshaft Oil Seal?
A yes answer to any of these, would give me pause.
