We have been thinking about getting a real christmas tree this year. I grew up my entire life with an artificial one so I really don't know how to manage or choose a real one. We would like to get one from a local tree farm the weekend after Thanksgiving. Any suggestions for which type would last the longest, smell the best, best for decorating, etc?

A Cut Christmas tree ;
When you get it home - cut about 1 inch off bottom immediately in upward slanting motion. This allows the tree to absorb water better. Once you put the stand on the tree ( before bringing inside to reduce the mess of needles on floor ) put water in it immediately! Check once a day and keep it watered and you have a little over a solid month before needles will began to fall from drying out.
So - good care - 1 month and 5 days
