i performed work for the general contractor on a residential job took me a month to get a check for 3450.00 then i deposit it and it bounces,.my question is, can i legally place a lien on the customers residence being thats where the work is done.,?its in maryland,.

If someone gives you a bad check, the first thing to do is go to the police. You may need an attorney to answer your question about the lien. Or, you could just go to the town hall where the residence is and ask them about placing a lien. They would need to know what the requirements are.

You actually work for the General Contractor and not the property owner. You can not go after the property owner. You have to go after the person that employed you.
Call the Contractors License Board or the Labor Board in your State.
Then sue the General Contractor. In some states you can sue for 3 times the amount of the check. You might post this question under law.
Yes, you can. Even if the customer paid the GC, they are still be made to pay you.
