My 15" Macbook Pro (2.4 ghz Core 2 Duo, 4gb) is still working well for me, but I've been thinking about either getting a new 17" or an iMac. I'm leaning toward the 17" but I'm wondering how much of a boost in performance I would get.
My only complaints about my MBP are the graphics chip (I get lagging when trying to browse through photos) and the fact that my hinge has loosened and the disc drive is on its way out. None of that would outweigh my love/obsession for the keyboard and trackpad on my current Mac UNLESS the speed will be significantly improved. Any advice?

The MacbookPro does have a significant speed boost compared to the older models. The 320M will blow away the 9400M. The i5 is a processor superior to the Core 2 Duo. The iMac and the MacbookPro are good options however the desktops tend to be more powerful than the desktops.
laptop processor vs desktop processor. In all, i can say is desktop always triumph
