I am thinking about getting a Lab puppy for my 15 year old daughter as a christmas present.
Currently i live in a flat with 2 big bedrooms and 1 big living room, with my husband and daughter & a cat whos 5 years old but she gets along with other animals.
I know that a lot of people say labs shouldn't live in a flat but I am moving out in about 5 months or so ? would that be a problem ? my daughter is a runner so the dog would get about 2 h of running everyday( not including daily walks) at the moment im not very fussed if the furniture would get damaged because when we move out we will get new one so it would be good for a puppy training ? so basically would it be a problem for a lab puppy to live/train in a flat for about 5 months ?
Its just my daughter ( and mine :P) dream to have a lab puppy, it will get love, food & all the facilities t needs to be a happy dog :-)
also which sex would be better, male or female ? ( different characters)
thanks

why not wait until you move out of your present flat ? Large dogs need space and even with your average garden these dogs can become a problem for you and your neighbours. Believe me I know what I'm talking about from owning a dog and having to listen to the howling, barking, and yelping of all the other neighbours' dogs in this area. Its a bloody nightmare! I realize that you like the idea of a puppy and can see just the good side of owning such a dog, but the downside is that this dog needs space like a farm or an estate in order to function properly. they need space to run and quickly become neurotic and a nuisance to everyone when they have to live in a small flat. The cat won't like him. He is middle aged and set in his ways and there will be murder !!!
I have a Ladradoole. They are awesome. If you get a Lad, they are going to be very energetic, just like an puppy. At one point it might become a chore to take care of him or her. I would get a girl and have her neutered. That way she won't get unexpectedly, well you know. Also females are extremely playful. If you don't get a labradoodle, get a Lab. Both are extremely sweet. But labradoodle don't bark as much and are hypoallergenic. Your choice!
