There are so many problems but they all started with a bad fall.
My vgn-s360p Laptop fell from 2 feet high and fell on a very hard floor.
I saw a crss.exe missing file error when i start up but I saw no effect from this.
My big problem is the freezing... It freezes everytime the angle isnt right. By angle I mean I have to set the bottom half of the laptop at an angle... sometimes it goes into a 4 bit mode.
If you cant find a way for me to fix it please include a link in which shows a laptop with the following qualities
- affordable
- 80GB or more
- 1GB of RAM
- Windows XP Service Pack 2
- 1.70 Ghz

Sounds like the Hard Drive was damaged slightly in the fall and now must be tilted for it to be read. When the tilt is to great it causes the HD to stop and the computer freezes.
Sounds like you need a repairman.
crss.exe is not a windows core file so this would not have had an effect on the computer. as a matter of fact crss.exe is considered to be a keystroke logger and has a 76% dangerous rating.
try removing your ram and hard drive and put them back in you may have bumped them loose
